Founder, Destiny Jackson on the Power of Love and Connecting with Our Parents in Prison

At 6:11 a.m. today, Destiny wrote the last paragraph of her father's words. By 10:45 a.m., Destiny added the final touches to a transcribed interview with her dad over the phone. The phone interviews occurred on April 26th and 27th. Letter for letter, Destiny finished typing the 20-page transcript over the course of 48 hours.
"I've been on this journey with my dad all my life. And some of the questions that I asked him during the interview, I've never asked him before."
Reflecting on her experience, Destiny shared the importance of staying in contact with your Mom or Dad in prison.
"Prison is a very lonely place. And it's way too easy for our parents to feel as though no one in the world loves them or cares about their feelings. That's where we—you and I—children of incarcerated parents, make a difference. Our parents love hearing our voice, reading our letters, or when we ask them questions about life or life in general. They cherish those moments with all their heart. Never forget that."
At the same time, Destiny also expressed her sadness for children who would give anything in the world to talk to their Mom or Dad in prison, but are unable to because they don't have the resources to do so. Something as simple as them not having money to accept phone calls from their Mom or Dad is devastating. That's where you, your friends, and your family can make a difference. Share this message with everyone you know. The Destiny Jackson Foundation will continue to  change the lives of every child with a Mom or dad in prison. But, we need your help too.
