MISSION 2: Did you know children with parents in prison are constantly rejected and judged by peers, family, friends, and educators? This is devastating. One way to crush the drive and motivation of a child with a parent in prison is to treat them like they are unworthy of love. And this happens way too often. Not only does this damaging sentiment crush the confidence of every child with a parent in prison, this stigma is wrong. Work with us to fight for the education and empowerment of every child with a parent in prison. We need our kids with parents in prison to know that their future holds much more for them outside of prison, violence, poverty, and educational failure. We do not want our kids with parents in prison to succumb to the trappings of recidivism. All in all, we do not want our kids behind bars, like their parents. Instead, we want to break the cycle of incarceration. We see doting potential in every child with a parent in prison. And, we know that they possess the drive and the will to do better. They just need helping hands of good guidance. However, we recognize that one strong barrier is the school-to-prison pipeline. Let's defeat it now. Begin.

MISSION 3: Did you know the United States imprisons more of its citizens that any other country in the world? Yes. Locking people up cost us around $74 billion in 2007, according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics. Yet, the money used to rehabilitate and support formerly incarcerated women and men remains slim. Also, the advancement of prisons for profit treats human bodies as commodities. Too many of our prisons are built with the intention to pack the prison to the brim in order to make money, rather than to keep society safe from harm. Government contracts with private prison companies also create a system where some folks are legally (and sometimes wrongfully) punished—not because they are guilty of the crimes that they are convicted of—but because contracts mandate that prisons maintain certain occupancy rates. It is no secret that our complex struggle with cruel and unusual punishment is far from finished. Destiny believes the way our society treats those in prison without a voice is a reflection of our humanity. We must improve the conditions of our prisons and the way our incarcerated citizens are treated. Let's fix it. Proceed.
